Scope the real problem

About CogniAccess
CogniAccess is a Northern Virginia consulting practice focused on identity and access management, federal security controls, and the platforms that depend on both. The measure of the work is simple: access should be understandable, defensible, and manageable after deployment.
Why CogniAccess exists
In many organizations, identity is spread across a directory, two cloud tenants, a collection of application settings, endpoint tools, spreadsheets, and local exceptions. Each piece may look reasonable on its own. The combined result is hard to secure and even harder to explain.
CogniAccess brings those decisions back into one operating picture. Authentication, device trust, privileged access, application federation, data protection, and audit evidence are treated as connected parts of the same system. A policy change is tested against user impact. A control statement is checked against the configuration. A remediation item is not closed until the evidence supports it.
That approach serves both sides of the client base. Federal programs receive identity work that fits authorization and reporting requirements. Commercial organizations receive controls that can survive growth, staff changes, insurance review, and customer scrutiny.
Operating principles
These principles keep scope honest and delivery predictable, whether the engagement is a short assessment or a long-running federal workstream.
CogniAccess separates the urgent control, the underlying design issue, and the work that can wait. The written scope states assumptions, dependencies, and exclusions plainly.
Policies, exceptions, control mappings, and open risks are recorded with an owner and a reason. The next administrator or assessor should not have to reconstruct intent.
Pilots and report-only periods come before broad enforcement. Sign-in data, support feedback, and operational readiness decide when the next wave proceeds.
CogniAccess does not resell software. Platform advice is based on fit, existing investment, control requirements, migration risk, and the cost of operating the result.
Practice depth
Modern access control reaches beyond the sign-in page. CogniAccess works across the surrounding systems that create trust signals, protect information, detect misuse, and prove control performance.
FISMA Audit & Controls, NIST SP 800-53 implementation support, Risk Management Framework activities, ATO package material, POA&M remediation, Interconnection Security Agreements, security risk assessments, and continuous monitoring.
Microsoft Azure identity and services, Microsoft 365 administration patterns, and Microsoft Purview implementation for data loss prevention, sensitivity labels, retention, audit, and eDiscovery support.
Intune and Jamf device trust, Microsoft Defender and CrowdStrike Falcon operations support, alert review, containment coordination, and Splunk and Qualys context for remediation decisions.
Service area
CogniAccess operates from Manassas, Virginia, with on-site availability in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and remote delivery across the United States.
Company facts
A stalled rollout, a control finding, a migration decision, or a workstream without enough depth — the first step is a clear description of the problem.
